BMW Motorrad Customer Race Teams at MotoAmerica Superbikes at Road America.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – June 3, 2024…Round 3 of the 2024 MotoAmerica Superbike series proved to be one of the most challenging for competitors in a while, with rain causing mayhem during Saturday’s Race 1 at Road America circuit in Wisconsin. Stock 1000 riders did not participate in this race weekend.

During Qualifying, Cameron Beaubier and his No. 6 Tytlers Cycle Racing BMW M 1000 RR set the pace with a blistering 2:09.764 lap, 1.2 seconds ahead of P2. Up and coming star Sean Dylan Kelly posted the 5th fastest qualifying time on his No. 40 TopPro Race Team BMW, while Beaubier’s teammate, JD Beach would start the 10-lap Race 1 from 7th on his No. 95 machine.
Steel Commander Superbikes Race 1
Sean Dylan Kelly pushed right from the start and was in P2 coming around turn one. Kelly jumped into the lead soon after, but his pace proved just a bit too quick for the wet conditions as he ran wide and was forced to reenter the race mid-field. Beaubier was running in 3rd position but pushed himself to the front by lap 3, with Kelly right behind after working his way through the field. Beaubier’s pace forced him to run wide in the exact same corner as Kelly did on the first lap and Cameron was pushed back to 7th place.
The conditions were treacherous with standing water on certain parts of the track causing the riders to lose traction and hydrolane. Kelly’s race would end on lap 3, while leading the race however as he lost front traction and laid his bike down, sliding off the track and into the gravel.
Sadly, Beaubier’s race would come to an end on Turn 1 of Lap 7 when he slid off into the gravel and came up limping. He needed assistance getting off the track and his return for Race 2 looked questionable. Beaubier’s Tytler’s Cycle Racing teammate JD Beach finished in 4th position while Danilo Lewis and his No. 94 Team Brazil BMW finished the first race in 6th.
Steel Commander Superbikes Race 2
Sean Dylan Kelly and JD Beach would start their BMWs from 3rd and 4th positions respectively while Cameron Beaubier’s injuries meant he would sit out the second race of the weekend.
Kelly was pushing as hard as he could to make up for his DNF from the lead of Race 1 and was trading 2nd and 3rd positions with his closest competitor up until the last lap of the race. He was running in 2nd when a shift issue forced him back into 6th and elevated Tytler’s Cycle Racing’s JD Beach into the 3rd. A well-deserved podium spot for JD Beach after riding an excellent race!
